2017 marks 100 years since the Great War that took the lives of 116,516 US soldiers, and wounded 200,000 others.

While the 100th anniversary of the US involvement in WWI was officially commemorated in Kansas City, MO on April 6, 2017 by the US World War I Centennial Commission at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, Eagle Pass will be remembering those who fought for freedom and peace throughout the week.

From May 3 through May 6, the VFW Post 8562 located at 2424 E Main St. will be showcasing artifacts from WWI, as well as give a brief history on Eagle Pass natives who fought in the war.

The event is open to people of all ages who are interested in learning more about the nation’s historical participation in WWI. The VFW will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
