The Memorial Junior High Band Program has had another successful year, performing in everything from pep rallies and football games, to competitions throughout the year.

On January 21, several MJH band students participated in the TMEA all-region band tryouts. MJH placed a total of 48 students in the band: more than any other band that participated in the tryouts. The MJH band also had six students who made first chair for their respective instrument: Amaris Romero on clarinet; Jose Padilla-Contra on alto clarinet; Fernando Villarreal on alto saxophone; Mia Uriegas on tenor saxophone; Janie Rodriguez on F horn; and Orlando Ortiz on baritone.

On April 6, MJH took two bands to the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation which took place at the EPISD Fine Arts Center. Both bands received a sweepstakes rating. MJH was the only school from Eagle Pass that had more than one band make a sweepstakes rating.

The non-varsity band has made a sweepstakes rating for four consecutive years, while the varsity band has made sweepstakes for ten consecutive years: the longest current active streak in Eagle Pass.

Band directors Mr. Vargas and Mr. Munoz are proud of their students, and would like to thank faculty, staff, administration, and parents for their continued support.
