A group of Maverick County concerned taxpayers are facing an obstacle in their quest for a tax rate rollback election.

According to the group, Maverick County legal counsel Woody Wilson has notified the Attorney General that the County seeks to withhold from public disclosure documents requested from Sandra Watkins and Karla Mazuka under the Texas Public Information Act for copies of emails and faxes between tax office and auditor’s office employees, and County Judge David Saucedo from September 14, 2016 through November 4, 2016.

The taxpayers stated that Maverick County previously used the same procedure to withhold for over 60 days the 2016 Effective Tax Rate Worksheets calculating the property tax rates, which eventually showed the Tax Assessor Collector’s Office had calculated the rollback tax rate adjusted for sales tax of $0.456839 on September 16, 2016.
