IBC Bank, as part of a corporate initiative to teach children to save, helped students at Rosita Valley Elementary School with the first ever career day of its kind.

Three sixth grade classes taught by Gladys Gonzalez, Norma Lopez, and Liz Guerra Medrano, respectively, presented  tri-folds with information on the type of career they would like to pursue.

“We came to do a financial literacy presentation here last month. In sixth grade, one of the main things is what do you want to be when you grow up, so we did a small career assessment with them and we took it a step further,” said IBC Representative Clarie Treviño. “IBC bank purchased all the tri-folds that you see here today so the [students] didn’t have to go through the expense. They  took it during spring break, searched how many years for their degree, and their salary.”

Treviño said they hope to make the career day an annual event.

Rosita Valley Elementary Principal Annette Lazarski was grateful for the opportunity that was given to about 100 students.

“A lot of our students just don’t know what they want to do, what they want to become, or the degree plan they want to follow when they get into high school. The teachers did an excellent job of recruiting IBC Bank,” said Lazarski. “They gave us the tri-folds and got our kids to thinking. IBC has been a wonderful partner in bringing all of this together, and even as I was going through those tri-folds I was blown away to what some of them want to do; from FBI agent, to astronomer. I want to thank IBC Bank, my teachers, students, and parents for all coming together to pave the path to the students’ futures.”

IBC representatives Larry Martin, Jose Palafox, Maritza Rodriguez, Iliana Aldrete, Maria Ramirez, Oscar Flores, and Clarie Trevino served as judges and awarded first, second, and third place awards.
