DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working checkpoint operations in Uvalde uncovered more than $1.7 million worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a vehicle.

“Del Rio Sector recognizes the growing impact that narcotics are having on our communities,” said Acting Del Rio Sector Chief Matthew J. Hudak. “A seizure like this hits smuggling organizations financially, while taking these deadly drugs off the streets.  I am very proud of all those involved in this seizure.”
On April 3, a driver pulled up to the primary inspection lane of a Border Patrol checkpoint west of Uvalde. A thorough inspection of the vehicle revealed 34 packages of crystal methamphetamine, worth $1,747,200.00.
The driver was subsequently arrested and the methamphetamine and vehicle were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity, call the sector’s toll free number at 1 (866) 511-8727.
