One suspect involved in the vandalism of the Eagle Pass High School and Eagle Pass Junior High has been arrested.

According to a press release sent by EPISD, on March 24, 2017 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Eagle Pass Independent School District’s Police Department executed its first arrest pertaining to the vandalism that occurred at the Eagle Pass Junior High during spring break.

21-year-old Antonio Caballero, Jr.  was arrested, processed, and transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center. He was magistrated by Justice of the Peace Tere Melendrez and was formally charged with burglary of a building and given a $7,000 bond.

Caballero said four other students were involved, all under age, one of whom is his younger brother. Caballero was still in custody at press time.

“The investigation will not end with this one arrest: it will continue and further detentions are foreseen in the immediate future. EPISD will not condone egregious behavior, and will take appropriate action. It will always be the school district’s utmost priority to ensure student safety and district property.”

The destruction of school property at EPHS and EPJH occurred during spring break, when vandals broke into both schools.

EPHS suffered damage to one of its newest buildings when those who broke side swiped a wall while driving golf carts through the halls.

EPJH was left with thousands of dollars in damages after a group of vandals disguised as clowns broke into classrooms and administrative offices and broke doors, windows, and sprayed the contents of fire extinguishers through out the school.
