Federal agencies report that 27.5 million background checks were conducted through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS in 2016; an increase of 19 percent as compared to the previous year, signaling an incoming decrease of gun demand.

In total, Sturm, Ruger came in No. 1 produced 1,667,820 firearms, Smith & Wesson came in No. 2 with 1,473,352, Remington Arms was 3rd with 1,143,671, Sig Sauer was No. 4 with 496,218 firearms , Maverick Arms came in No. 5 with 473,472, Savage Arms was No.6 with 394,856, Henry RAC was 7th with 306,607, Wm C Anderson was 8th with 300,390, and Similarly Glock was Np. 9 with 252,145 firearms made.
Remington and Maverick Arms accounted for almost 90% of all shotguns produced in the U.S during that year.
