City sales tax revenue on decline

The peso devaluation has negatively affected many local merchants, especially in the downtown area. However, documents show that sales tax revenue has been on the decline.

According to the allocation historical summaries for years 2015, 2016, and 2017, the City of Eagle Pass’ sales tax revenue has been on the decline.

Summaries show that from 2015 to 2016, revenue declined from $412,191.91 to $383,478.51 for the month of January; and rose slightly from $383, 478.51 in January 2016 to $387,068.29 in January 2017. From February to 2015 to February 2016, revenue fell $17,315.97, and from February 2016 to 2017, it fell $48,662.43.

The total sales tax revenue from 2015 to 2016 fell $420,294.40.

These numbers reflect only a portion of the decline in purchases throughout the city.
