During the past weeks complaints about the long lines and waits at the Maverick County Tax office were brought forth.

“The lines to get into the building are out the door and it’s not the wisest thing to have when it’s one of the only offices that makes money for the county,” stated one resident.

“I spent an hour and a half waiting to get my plates,” said another.

The problem that is being experienced often occurs during this time of year due to certain things that beyond control such as Federal Income Tax Returns and Property Tax Deadlines. Add on an increase of people rushing to get their license plates renewed and there’s a problem.

Tax Assessor Collector Isamary Sanchez Villareal has stated that they are working to shorten the wait times, and assist all patrons including in the tax department and license and registration area as well.

“We are working to expedite the situation as swiftly as possible. The Maverick County Commissioners Court provided a new employee around three months ago and the County Judge has also sent an employee to assist us during this time,” said Villarreal.

For now the County Tax Office will make due with what they have and continue assisting the residents in the best way possible. People will continue standing in line waiting to either pay their taxes or get their license plates or registrations, recognizing that it’s a must do.

“No matter what, I have to pay my taxes, so standing around for a little bit of time is an inconvenience but it needs to be done,” said one patron. “I do wish they could hire a little more help with some of that money they are trying to get.”
