Two tractor-trailers were involved in a vehicle accident on Loop 480, near El Indio Hwy. at approximately 12 p.m. Monday February 27, 2017.
According to reports, both tractor-trailers were heading northbound when one made a U-turn and was struck by the other tractor-trailer. Both drivers of the vehicles were in stable condition at the scene of the accident.
The Sheriff’s department assisted at the scene with traffic control while the Texas Department of Public Safety took over the investigation of this accident which completely shut down Loop 480 for several hours.
One of the tractor-trailers was left over-turned on the road while the other had severe damage to the front portion of the vehicle. It appeared that one of the vehicles was carrying cargo, although the exact contents were undetermined at the time of the incident.
One driver was taken to the emergency room by ambulance, his identity has not been disclosed.
Two wreckers were required to remove the trucks from the roadway which was covered in debris from the strong impact.
According to TxDOT Laredo District Public Information Officer Raul Leal the road remained closed for approximately 4 hours.
