Eagle Pass Native Christian Garcia was successful at yet another shot put competition last weekend, where he represented Texas A&M Kingsville.

The recent TAMUK graduate took home three awards at the Lone Star Conference Championship in Alamosa, Colorado.

Garcia, a Kinesiology major with a 3.49 GPA, was named to the 2017 LSC Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.

On Saturday Garcia participated in the LSC Championship Weigh Throw Competition in which he placed fourth and scored five points for his team. Sunday, he entered the ring again for the sport where his talent shines brightest: shot put.

Garcia entered the ring as the Conference Favorite and battled his way through tough competition before jumping from third place with a throw of 16.07 meters or 52.75 feet, to first place after launching a tremendous throw of 16.07 meters or 52.75.

Garcia is currently ranked in the top 20 of the nation’s Division II collegiate throwers. He will next compete in the Boston University Invitational Track Meet in Boston, Mass. for the chance to solidify his place at the Division II National Indoor Track Meet in Birmingham, MS. on March 11.
