“All the schools in the competition were from Houston, we were the only group from way outside the area,” said Percussion Director Mario Treviño, who has been with EPHS for a little over two years. “We had never taken a trip that far, and it was really neat for us to be successful because we plan on going back to Houston in March, and that’s going to be a really big trip for us.”
Treviño said about 32 students participated in the event where they beat out 30 other schools.
“We were in the intermediate [group], but since we did so well we won everything in that division, so they kind of forced us into the advanced division which has never happened before,” said Treviño. “Now we’re going to compete against even better schools.”
This is the first competition of the year for EPHS percussion, with three more to come.
Treviño would like to thank everyone who supported the students, especially parents who sometimes even get donations from their workplace to help with expenses for the EPHS percussion.
