The Maverick County Junior Livestock Show event was a great success, with thousands of people participating in all the activities sponsored by MCJLS in 2017, which was formally dedicated to local attorney Verne F. Knickerbocker and his contributions to MCJLS and the community.

Many students were able to experience showing their animals, a valuable lesson learned through the MCJLS.

The results of the show and sale are as follows: David Ramos’ Grand Champion Steer was sold for $16,200 to District 74 State Representative Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez; Alexandra Galvan’s Grand Champion Hog sold for $10,000 to Ancira Ford Mercury of Eagle Pass; Samantha Molina’s Grand Champion Goat sold for $8,500 to a group of livestock show supporters including Aguila Construction, Morris & Dora Libson, Hilda Martinez of Friendly Pharmacy, Dr. Hector Alvarez of Eagle Pass Dental Clinic, Poncho Nevarez and Bravo Deisel; and Arturo Molina’s Grand Champion Lamb was sold for $11,000 to Jim Neutze.

Tonya Rodriguez’s Reserve Grand Champion Steer sold for $6,000 to IBC Bank; Marcus Cisneros’ Reserve Grand Champion Hog sold for $4,000 to Victor Perry; Fidencio R. Ruiz’s Reserve Grand Champion Goat sold for $4,500 to HEB; and Jose Samaniego’s Reserve Grand Champion lamb sold for $8,000 to Aguila Construction.

“I would like to thank my board of directors, my membership, all my volunteers, all the exhibitors and the parents, and I’d also like to thank the community for coming out and supporting the kids,” said MCJLS President Tim Hardt.

Hardt said over 166 animals were auctioned off during the event.
