Several incidents were reported to the Eagle Pass Police Department over the weekend including power outages throughout the city on Sunday due to strong winds.

According to police reports, an officer on patrol recognized a female walking within the 100 block of Pierce Street as a person with an active warrant on Friday January 20, 2017 at approximately 9:00 a.m. The officer spoke with the female identified as 37 year-old Cristal Flores and confirmed the warrant for burglary of a building. Flores was placed under arrest and later was presented before a magistrate where she was formally charged and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $7,000 bond.

Also on Friday at approximately 11:10 a.m. a female identified as 34 year-old Martha Marissa Rodriguez arrived at the Eagle Pass Police Department to voluntarily be taken into custody after being informed of an active warrant for her arrest for an assault which occurred in 2015.

Rodriguez was processed and later presented before a magistrate where she was formally charged with the assault and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $3,000 personal recognizances bond.

On Sunday January 22, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Chevy Suburban after it was noticed driving erratically on El Indio Highway.

The officer identified the diver and conducted 3 standardized field sobriety tests in which several signs of intoxication were displayed. The driver, 37 year-old Alberto Espinoza was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Espinoza was later presented before a magistrate and formally charged with felony driving while intoxicated after it was discovered he had prior convictions for the same charge. Espinoza was remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $6,000 bond.

Local police officers also responded to numerous calls for service in regards to alarms and traffic control situations on Sunday due to power outages in various areas. Officers were able to maintain traffic control while AEP Service Crews worked on restoring power to the affected areas of the city. The outages were due to the high winds which were experienced and power was restored after a short period of time. Chief of Police Alberto Guajardo would like to commend the officers who responded to these incidents. As a result of the officers response there were no major motor vehicle accidents to injuries reported and only reports of minor property damages. In cases of power outages the Eagle Pass Police Department recommends avoiding major intersections when traffic lights are not functioning in order to avoid accidents. If a major intersection is to be traveled we ask that you do so with caution.
