Schmerber states that Maverick County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene of an incident in the early Sunday hours. When deputies arrived to the scene they found a male adult later identified as 20 year old Christopher Holgen had been assaulted by another male during an altercation.
Sheriff Deputies proceeded to detain a male subject identified as Julio Alvarez as the suspected aggressor in the altercation.
Alvarez was taken to the Tom Bowles Detention Center.
Holgen was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for treatment of his wounds and remains hospitalized in serious condition.
All indications are that the altercation begun while both males involved were attending a get together which sadly turned into an exchange of words and violence.
Alvarez at the moment is facing aggravated assault charges but could face further charges depending on the well being of Holgen , the victim.
Aggravated assault is a second-degree felony, and the penalty is 2 to 20 years in a Texas prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
Texas Department of Public Safety (Criminal History Arrests and Convictions) records for Maverick County for the years 2013 to 2016 show that there have been 79 Aggravated Assaults With A Deadly Weapon cases Penal Code 22.02 (a) (2) during the four year period, 11 cases in 2013 to 13 during 2013 , 29 cases in 2015 and 26 in 2016.
