Gonzalez, who has coached for EPHS for eight years, two of them as head coach, was grateful for the honor, and was quick to mention that he was not the only one who deserved recognition.
“It’s been very humbling to have this group of kids, and I couldn’t have done it without them, Assistant Coach Ruben Martinez, and my family. This just isn’t about me: it was a true team effort, “ said Gonzalez in a previous interview. “It means a lot to win this award because this was region coach of the year, and it’s awarded by my peers, so it just goes a long way to see what they think we’re doing with our program here at Eagle Pass and we’re very proud of that.”
