During the reception and ceremony both Nevarez and Uresti were accompanied by family, close friends and their staff members amongst a host of public officials.
Nevarez is about to begin serving his third term as state representative, while Uresti is going on his eleventh year as Texas State Senator for District 19.
Nevárez represents House District 74 spanning twelve counties including Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Kinney, Loving, Maverick, Pecos, Presidio, Reeves, Terrell and Val Verde. Nevárez passed his first bill, HB 908, through the Texas House in May 2013. The bill focused on rural community issues relating to the assessment of an elderly or disabled person’s psychological status for purposes of an emergency order authorizing protective services. This bill would amend the statute to not just allow master social workers and licensed psychologists to perform psychological assessments of disabled or elderly persons for exploitation, abuse, or neglect, but also allow licensed professional counselors the ability to perform these assessments.
“With the lack of master social workers and licensed psychologists in rural areas, permitting licensed professional counselors to perform these psychological assessments would benefit greatly,” expressed Nevárez.
Carlos Uresti’s brother Tomas Uresti was also sworn in as State Representative for District 118.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu traveled to Austin, Texas to be present in representation of his constituency, and to personally congratulate both Nevarez and Uresti on their return and re-election.
