The Eagle Pass Police Department purchased a new vehicle as part of the restructuring of their crime scene evidence unit.
Police Chief Alberto Guajardo said the department spent approximately $28,000 on the vehicle, and were able to use funds available from the 2015-2016 fiscal budget. Modifications such as laptops, cameras, and spotlighting added to meet the needs of crime scene detectives will come from the 2016-2017 budget.
The vehicle the department previously had was badly in need of an update, said Guajardo.
“We had a very antiquated vehicle thats been in the department for about 12 years at the time that I came here. It was about time we restructured the evidence program, and doing so we needed to acquire a new vehicle. Our finance department and our administration was very helpful in doing that,” said Guajardo. “These are never wants, they’re always needs so we’re being very careful how we spend our dollars, but in doing so we’re also restructuring our special response team also known as SWAT, with new equipment and training coming on board. That’s just to provide a better service to our community.”
