The first Paint the Town event of the school year was held Saturday, September 17.

Over 90 volunteers attended including Border Patrol Explorer Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and students from several elementary schools and both junior high and high schools. The volunteers continued the work on the mural under the Garrison Street overpass despite muddy conditions making it difficult.

Unlike the summer, when Paint the Town is held every week, the events are only held one Saturday a month during the school year. Diana Sanchez, who helps organize Paint the Town, said the next time they will work will be done on the mural will most likely be until winter, as volunteers will be dedicating their time to Project Clean Sweep in October. Project Clean Sweep is a community-wide event that allows volunteers to be improve the area by picking up litter.

Project Clean Sweep is only one of three events that will be happening in October. National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, will be held October 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Academy where Eagle Pass citizens are encouraged to come out for a night of festivities and meet their neighbors and local law enforcement.

On October 28, the first ever Fright Night Haunted Garden will take place at the Walmart Garden Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Free food and drinks will be served. Cost of entrance to the haunted house will be one can of food per person, which will be donated to the Maverick County Food Pantry.
