The C.C. Winn Mavericks were victorious over the visiting Mission Eagles after their loss to EPHS last week. The Mavericks took it out on a Mission team this week with a 27 to 7 win in Friday's non-district match-up.
The Mavs were first to strike with a short run by QB Julio Ruiz with 5:10 left in the first quarter making the score 6-0 after a missed extra point.
The Maverick defense took over the game early, causing turnovers and making quick tackles. The offense once again took over the ball with very good field position after a fumble recovery, setting up the team for a Danny Rios TD with 8:19 left in the half. This time Christian Rodriguez nailed the extra point putting them up 13-0.
Rios would again find the end zone before halftime with a short run making the score 20-0. The Mission Eagles were able to place some points on the board in the third, making it 20 to 7 as the fourth quarter began.
The Mavs scored again in the fourth after Ruiz ran in the final score of the game, making the final 27-7.
The Mavericks (3-1) will now prepare for Central Catholic (San Antonio, TX). The Buttons come into the non-league challenge with a 2-2 record. In their last challenge, Central Catholic was knocked off by Devine (Devine, TX), 41-38 in a non-league challenge.
The Eagle Pass High School Eagles faced the Alexander Bulldogs at Thursday's district game in Laredo, Tx.) where they lost with a score of 42 to 16.
The Bulldogs improve to 1-3 record. They play next when they travel to Del Rio for a 6A Region IV District 29 game on Friday, September 23. Alexander will encounter a Rams squad coming off a win over Southwest (San Antonio, TX). The Rams record now stands at 4-0.
The Eagles face the Laredo LBJ Wolves (Laredo, TX) on Saturday, September 24. The Eagles will attempt to improve on its 2-2 season record. The Wolves go into the contest with a 0-4 record after a 56-0 loss to United (Laredo, TX).
