Tuesday marked the beginning of a week of school spirit competition between CC Winn and Eagle Pass High School, all leading up to the much anticipated “Battle on the Border.”

The competition began with a ringing of a bell by CC Winn Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor and EPHS Defensive Coordinator Roger Olivas. Faculty and students, including dance teams, cheerleading squads, and drum lines, from both schools gathered at the SAC to compete for 25 “Most Spirited School” points, which were awarded to EPHS. Both EPHS High School Principal John Cox and CC Winn Principal Jesus Diaz-Wever spoke at the event.

This morning, athletes will have the chance to answer questions from the media in the first ever press conference that will begin at 10:00 a.m. and include words from Superintendent Gilberto Gonzalez, Campus Principals, Athletic Director, and Head Coaches. In the evening, the freshmen and JV teams will play their games at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively. The winning school’s cheer and dance teams will be featured.

Despite the positive environment the district hopes to bring from the spirit week, CC Winn has already suffered an attack of vandalism on the statue of the bull outside the front of the school.
