The C.C. Winn Mavericks improved to a 2-0 overall record this season after a big 21 to 0 win against Oki Villaseñor’s LBJ Wolves. The Mavericks celebrated Parent’s Night and athletes were escorted onto the field by family members where they were greeted and thanked by Head Coach Eric Villaseñor and C.C. Winn administrative staff.

Villaseñor shared another special moment before the game when he and his father and LBJ Head Coach met at midfield for a hug before the game. The victory gives Eric a tied record with this father splitting the four times they have faced each other.

The Mavericks scored early and often in this one, going up with a score of 14-0 at the end of the half thanks to two touchdowns by tailback Danny Rios.

The Maverick offensive line imposed their will in the game and wore the Wolves down in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Julio Ruiz ran in a one-yard keeper early in the fourth making the score 21-0. The Maverick defense came up big against the Wolves shutting them out completely even after the Wolves put together one last drive before the end of the game.

The Eagle Pass Eagles traveled to Laredo on Friday, in a match-up against the Laredo Cigarroa Toros at Shirley Field.  The Eagles put together a dominant performance against  the Toros in a 49 to 0 one-sided affair lead by their running game bringing their young season to a 1-1 record.

The C.C. Winn Mavericks clash with our very own Eagle Pass High School Eagles in a non-league game, this Friday, September 9. Winn will attempt to improve on it’s 2-0 season record. The Eagles enter the game with a 1-1 record after their 49-0  win over Cigarroa.
