Convicted Felon Attempted Entry Without Inspection
Del RIo, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested a known gang member, convicted of sexual assault.
“The men and women of the United States Border Patrol are committed to keeping the American people safe,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “The apprehension of this dangerous criminal is another way we accomplish that objective.”
On Sept. 5, Border Patrol agents patrolling near Eagle Pass, encountered John Albert Gover, a 40-year-old U.S. citizen who is listed among the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders. During processing, agents discovered that in 2009, he was convicted of indecency with a child in Bexar County and sentenced to four years confinement. Gover was then arrested again in 2014 for failing to register as a sex offender. Gover failed to appear for a subsequent court date and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Gover, faces a charge of violating 19 USC § 1459, which requires people entering the United States to present themselves for inspection at designated crossing points. The violation carries a penalty of up to one year in prison. Gover will then be turned over to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for his active warrant.
