 Staff reports

The Eagle Pass Police Department Division conducted traffic details within numerous school zones during the first full week of students returning to school.

As a precautionary measure, EPPD would like to remind those who are traveling to a school campus, as well as those traveling through a school zone to respect all posted speed limits, watch for reduced speeds within school zones, refrain from the use of a handheld device while operating a motor vehicle, not to park on yellow or red painted curbs; not to park and obstruct private driveways, not to park facing traffic; not to double park; not to conduct “U-Turns” in order to enter a school property; not to cut through private property; and to have all children in required safety seats and all passengers utilizing seatbelt.

The above mentioned preventative measures should be abided by in order to deter accidents, traffic citations and fines. These measures are to help assure that all students as well as vehicular traffic arrive safely to their destination.

EPPD Officer Humberto Garza said a lot of the department’s administration will help patrol officers during this busy time of year, especially on El Indio highway.

“Most of the time everybody is in a hurry and they try to take short cuts, make u-turns, cut through private property,” said Garza. “We had all those kinds of issues this week especially on El Indio, but no accidents which is great.”
