Carmelita Cedillo, Development Specialist for the foundation explained the significance of this program and the important service it provides to the public.
"With the Kohl's partnership, the monies are generated from their sales of books and plush toys and those benefit our program 100%, the Pediatric Mobile Clinic. That is why we are able to come and provide services to anyone who needs immunizations from young to old." said Cedillo. “Children are scared, they are gonna get a shot, but when they are given a toy or a book it calms them down. The Kohl's Cares Program is wonderful, the corporate offices and the managers here locally get very involved. They may know someone who gets services from The Children's Hospital in San Antonio, so it hits home for many people. This is something that they believe in and care in. They are part of the community of Eagle Pass".
Patricia Perez, Kohl's Manager, was grateful for the service that they can provide with this great partnership.
"We are very grateful to have our Kohl's Cares program which is why we sell our plush toys and books. Our partnership with The Children's Hospital allows us to give back to the community by providing this service. The mobile clinic usually will come back in January and in October. Right now we are providing immunizations for back to school so children who do not have the means of having insurance, their parents can come by with a copy of their immunization records and we can help them." said Perez. “Our associates are volunteering their time, and we do this in order to build the morale in our stores and build the teamwork that we provide as a unit."
Nurse Lisa Cerda of The Children's Hospital of San Antonio was on hand helping out local community members with their immunization shots and says that these types of services are well received here in Eagle Pass.
"We have a good crowd today and we are providing immunizations to kids of all ages at no cost to parents. This is a great service due to the fact that schools have a policy of no shots, no school no kidding. We want to make sure that children who need their vaccine can get them for free or if parents simply want to review records they can come and do so also."
Also assisting in the immunizations were nurses Anthony De Leon and Juanita Lopez, Manuel Gonzalez as well as two community members also helped with registering families.
