DEL RIO, Texas –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers this weekend seized $800,000 in alleged methamphetamine hidden in a passenger vehicle.
“Amid searing summer heat, our officers maintained their vigilance, applied their experience and utilized all available tools and resources to seize a significant amount of methamphetamine,” said Port Director Alberto Perez, Del Rio Port of Entry.
The seizure occurred on July 16 at Del Rio International Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 2007 Honda Civic driven by a 29-year-old female Mexican citizen arriving from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico for a secondary inspection. During the examination, CBP officers utilizing canine and non-intrusive imaging system resources discovered 41 packages containing 57 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the roof. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $800,000.
CBP officers turned the case over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
