City council will begin interviewing applicants this week for the city manager position that has been held on an interim basis by Roberto Gonzalez.
Three of the applicants will be given the opportunity to interview beginning at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning and the three remaining applicants will be interviewed on Thursday July 14 at 9:45 a.m.
The six people who will be interviewed are Jesus Sanchez, Manuel de la Rosa Jr., Rudolph Bowles Jr., Juan Francisco Zuniga, Monica Martinez and William Arthur DiLibero.
According to Gonzalez, he will not be involved in the selection process. "I think that particular issue really belongs to the council, the city secretary and the department of Human Resources. They are the key people involved in the search." stated Gonzalez.
The city manager position had been left vacant after the arrest of former city manager Hector Chavez, Sr., on federal bribery and obstruction charges related to his participation in a “pay-to-play” scheme involving a Maverick County landfill contract.
Chavez faces up to 20 years in federal prison on the falsification of records and obstruction charges; up to ten years in federal prison for the bribery charge; and, up to five years in federal prison for making a false statement to a federal agent.
Chavez' date for jury selection and trial has been set for Tuesday, July 19.
