At the EPISD School Board meeting on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, EPISD transportation department employees Rogelio Gonzalez, Maria Valdez, and Reynaldo Gonzalez (pictured above) were recognized for placing at the Annual Bus Rodeo Competition in San Antonio. Gonzales won first place, while Valdez took second and Renaldo placed third at the competition. Also recognized was Memorial Junior High School Principal Vera Sumpter who was honored for being one of few who received the Texas Music Educator Distinguished Administrator Award.
