The scene was set as over 6,000 fans filed into the EPISD Sports Complex to witness what could've very well been the game for the District 29-AAAAA championship. State Representative Pete Gallego was on hand to be in charge of the traditional coin toss which was won by Eagle Pass who deferred to the second half and when the referee indicated that Del Rio would be receiving the opening kickoff, the 2,500+ Ram Fans who came in force let their collective voices be heard for the first time. Whatever the case may have been on this evening, these fans would get their money's worth as the Rams bolted to a quick lead after their first drive, running without starting QB Jorge Fernandez, the Rams came out in a wildcat formation snapping directly to Claudio Arizpe for a quick first down.

They tried it again on first down, but RJ Valdez made a nice stop and it looked as though Roger Olivas' defense would begin to respond when QB Reese Perry finally came under center and was under pressure from the Eagle front three and may have been sacked when he let a pass go, as were the hopes of the Eagle coaching staff, and Javy Cardona seemingly picked off the Reese delivery, but officials called it down. It was at this point that Ram scat back Gudelio Garza literally carried the hopes of the depleted Ram offense on his shoulders as on a well designed misdirection play that gave the Eagle defense fits all night long, Garza took a fake to a motioning wide out and gave left to Garza to the ten yard line as Kevin Chisum made a TD-saving tackle, then it was Garza up the middle on the very nest play for the Ram touchdown with 8:22 remaining in the first quarter. On EP's first possession brother Ty lost the handle on the football and the Rams were in business once again from deep in Eagle territory. It was on a fourth and 1 that what looked like a blast up the middle from a two tight end set, Garza popped around left end and took it in for the second Ram TD. The Eagles were unable to sustain a drive on the next possession, then on another well-designed play of misdirection, DR shifted two backs the ran the wideout in motion from left to right and before we knew it Garza was of to the races as they ran him left for the 25 yard touchdown to put the Rams up 21-0 with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter. On the ensuing Eagle drive Ty Chisum bought some time after rolling left and eluded the Ram blitz and found Carlos Villarreal for a first down, but an illegal forward pass later in the drive forced the Eagles to punt it away. With 9:48 left in the half, Garza struck again over right tackle to put DR up 28-0 before the half. The Eagles finally stopped the Ram rushing attack with five minutes remaining the Eagles got the ball back and on a 4th and 1, Chisum took it himself for the first down, then found RJ Ruiz for a nine yard gain on the near sideline, a nice pitch and catch, but a big hit by defensive end Andy Gutierrez on Chisum set us back eight yards essentially stalling the drive. The lone highlight for the Eagles in the second half was another interception by Kevin Chisum who jumped a slant route from Perry and gave the home crowd something to cheer for before DR tacked on three more scores to come away with a 49-0 win securing the District 29-AAAAA crown.
