3,000 votes have been cast as of Saturday which included the special voting date on Saturday, which have some politicians stating it is positive and others stating that it is normal amount for a presidential election year. It is hoped that these numbers continue to rise and that voters will turn out in record numbers for this, the most important elections in recent history. According to those who follow these trends closely, there seems to be much interest in school district elections as well as in the elections for hospital board.

The EPISD has four races which are underway; those for Place 1 between local attorney Claudio Herdia who is being challenged by Jose Reyna, Place 2 where incumbent Ignacio Saucedo is running against Rodolfo Lopez in what has voters coming out in large numbers, Place 6 where local attorney David Riojas is the incumbent who faces stiff competition from Dr. Hector Alvarez and CPA Jesús Casas, but Riojas has been in this place before and Place 7 has incumbent Glenna Purcell in another three way race between herself, former board member Tom Cary and former educator Marcos Villalpando. In the race for the Maverick County Hospital District Board, Ricardo Calderon, Sylvia Serrano, Luchia Johnson, and incumbents Juan Manuel Farias and Humberto Duran are all on the ballot vying for three slots on the board to the three highest vote tallies with no run-off slated. For State Senator, Carlos Uresti is banking on the promise of all 27,000 registered voters in Eagle Pass and Maverick County coming out to make their collective voices heard in his race against Republican Michael Berlanga. In the race for State Representative for District 74, Alfonso "Poncho" Nevarez is counting on his hometown to come through as he has hit the proverbial campaign trail himself in the biggest district of its kind in the state against Republican Thomas Kincaid. Pete Gallego is in a heated race against incumbent Republican Kiko Canseco which we all hope will end up favorable for the Democratic candidate and in the closest presidential race in recent memory, President Barack Obama is in a close race with Republican Mitt Romney.
