After this it was time to attack the issues at hand, the first of which was the outsourcing of a firm to analyze the financial opportunities of putting the local VFW Post 8562 on the open market. When discussion opened on this item, County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado expressed his concern for the fact that if this property is indeed sold, what was to become of our local veterans? A quick and deliberate response came from Judge Saucedo that the motion was merely to look into the value of the property and without such a study, the property could not be placed on the market. Saucedo also informed him that once the process is finalized, the county will look into replacing the building elsewhere. Finally, the item that raised the concern of more than one member of Commissioner's Court was that of a budget amendment for salary adjustment to Road & Bridge Foreman Apolonio Rodriguez from $42,000.00 to $50,000.00 from the operational budgets of all four precincts and into the existing personnel budget. While Mr. Rodriguez efficiency in said position is definitely not in question, Judge Saucedo brought up the issue of such a move being counter productive to the recently approved 2012-2013 Budget last week when all matters of this nature should have been addressed. Saucedo expressed his disdain by making everyone aware of this fact and when Commissioner Flores asked where the funds were going to come from, Saucedo stated, "I'm glad you asked," because the funds will indeed come the existing budgets of all four commissioners. The item was placed to a vote and it passed 3-2 with Commissioners Heredia, Rosales and Maldonado for and Judge Saucedo and Commissioner Flores casting dissenting votes.

The Regular Meeting of Maverick County Commissioner's Court was moved to Tuesday due to the fact that all offices were closed due to the awareness of Columbus Day. First up prior to the deliberation of County business was the reading of a proclamation honoring the Maverick County 4-H Club. Oscar Galindo, Maverick County Agent was on hand along with a handful of members of our 4-H Club to receive the proclamation which was read by The Honorable David R. Saucedo, Maverick County Judge, highlighting the significance of such an organization signifying the four core values of the club: Head which is to be used to manage your activities and to think about key issues, Heart which children should incorporate to relate to issues and care about others, Hands which should be used to give and to work and Health which is a sign of being and living a life with the quality which only a person who exemplifies these qualities can live.
