At approximately 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, after the report of a suspicious object was made on International Bridge II, after a visual inspection of the object, the bridge was closed and Incident Command Control was activated immediately for the safety of officials and the public in general. EPPD was notified and specialized units from both Laughlin AFB in Del Rio as well as Lackland AFB in San Antonio were called upon to investigate. In an instant, Customs and Border Protection, The Office of Field Operations, the USBP, the EPFD and the City Operations Center were put into emergency alert. Mayor Ramsey Cantú called a press conference to inform the media of the details surrounding the closure and was supported by representatives of all aforementioned entities.

"An inert explosive device was found to be on the bridge," stated Cantú, "Not a live one. The team secured and disposed of the device in the manner they are so trained and Bridge II resumed normal operations at 4:15 P.M." "Bridge I was also inspected and cleared and continued uninterrupted," he concluded, "Safety was our first priority." When asked if camera surveillance had captured the dropping off of said package, Mayor Cantú responded that that exact footage is being analyzed at this time to ascertain whoever is responsible so they can be positively identified. Other members of the media asked if at any time the device could have been explosive to which he responded that it was not live.
