The narcotics and driver were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. Drug traffickers continue to use creative methods to smuggle contraband into the United States,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “However, our CBP officers’ training and experience, coupled with the state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal once again kept a load of dangerous narcotics from entering the country.”

DEL RIO, Texas -
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Eagle Pass arrested a Houston woman Monday after finding more than half a million dollars worth of narcotics in her vehicle. Monday morning, CBP officers at Eagle Pass Bridge I inspected a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by a 22-year-old Houston woman, as it arrived in the United States from Mexico. Following a preliminary inspection, officers referred the pickup for intensive examination, using a non-intrusive imaging system. Electronic scans of the vehicle revealed anomalies that led officers to discover four black tape-wrapped bundles. Three of the bundles contained cocaine, weighing a total of 14.124 pounds, while the fourth held 3.696 pounds of methamphetamine. The cocaine and methamphetamine were valued at $451,968 and $55,440, respectively.
