The CC Winn Mavericks traveled to Hondo on Friday night and were the first Eagle PAss team to do so in over fifty years.

If the first half of play was any indication, Ricky Flores, Deion Alonso and the Mavs were in for a Highway 90 shootout with Zane Caroll, Paul  Duran, AJ Leos and the Owls as Hondo took the first punt of the game and managed to start off in good field position following a forty yard punt return deep into Maverick Territory.  It was not long before Owl power-back AJ Leos pounded into the endzone for the initial score.

It took two plays for the Mavs to answer right back as fullback Jorge Andrade showed some power of his own with a 45 yard scamper into the Owl endzone to tie the game on Dante Valdez' extra point.

Maverick defender Daniel Hernandez made his presence felt by stripping a ball and recovering it deep inside Hondo Territory to set up Deion Alonso's six yard touchdown run with eleven minutes and change remaining on the clock in the first half.

The Owl offense sustained a drive from their own 40 and both scored and ate up the rest of the time remaining on the clock which culminated in a 30 yard scoring strike from Carroll to Duran to bring the home team within one as the point after failed.

The Carroll to Duran connection would work twice more, once in the third quarter on a thirty five yard pass play with about six minutes to go in the third to go up 21-14 after Leos bashed his way through the Mav front four for a two-point conversion.

Duran scored on a reverse from fifteen yards out yet once more to make the score 28-14, then Zane Carroll would take it in himself on a bootleg to pull away 34-14.

The MAvericks will re-group and try to regain the momentum of their first two victories as they travel to the Queen City to take on the dreaded Del Rio Rams in a game which will not be for the faint of heart.

The Eagle Pass Eagles will be at home against the Alexander Bulldogs at the EPISD Sports Complex Football Stadium.
