Mr. Martinez resident of Las Brisas Subdivision in Maverick County took advantage at the onset of this week’s Commissioner’s Court meeting when he addressed the court on behalf of the residents in his area which have serious concerns about the junkyards that are still in operation.

Several months ago county commissioners met with a group of disgruntled residents who had complaints about junkyards that are operating without the proper permits.

Mr. Martinez petitioned the court for an update on the issue of the junkyards in their area as they had been given 60 days to comply with the law and secure their permits to conduct this type of business.

According to Martinez they have already spoken to Commissioner Cantu and understand that the 60 days are up and they would like to know if the owner of these junkyards have turned in the documentation required and if they indeed have permission to conduct business in their area.

“We have had lots of problems with animals in the immediate area, a snake was killed in the church adjacent to the junkyard.” stated Martinez.

The residents of Las Brisas hope to get a response from commissioner’s court at their next rehgularly scheduled meeting.
