Accroding to a Maverick County Sheriff press release a warrant for aggravated assault, which is a second degree felony was executed for Ezequiel Gil Esquivel (AKA Panza Local). The man known as 'Panza Loca' was arrested without incident at his residence.
Similar charges were made on Victor Manuel Salinas Pecina also known as El Apache, who was already in federal custody.
These two men have been found responsible for the shooting which left three injured at Gera’s Bar on September 28th of 2014.
Sheriff Schmerber gives thanks to the Texas Rangers, the Texas Department of Public Safety for having assisted in this investigation.
The arrest of Esquivel was affected by the Maverick County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the DPS.
According to the Sheriff, the reason it took so long to formally bring charges against these two individuals was because they had to interview approximately forty persons who were in the establishment at the time of the shooting. He also cited fear on the part of those witnesses in giving testimony due to the possibility of repercussions from an alleged cartel whom could have been responsible for ordering the shooting. Apparently they felt threatened and may have been contacted by said cartel.
