Chevy Tahoe Crashes into Trash Collection Vehicle: Two Rescued
Two people were rescued from a Chevy Tahoe which was engulfed in flames after crashing into a waste gathering vehicle on the 2400 block of El Indio Highway early Tuesday morning just after midnight. Seargent Jose Ibarra informed The News Gram that the driver of the Tahoe was Juan Salas, 51, who was traveling with his son, Juan Salas, Jr., 27 who both reside in Seco Mines. The trash truck was being driven by Hector Loera, 40, an employee of the Eagle Pass Public Works Department. According to the report, the truck was picking up trash on the highway when the Tahoe rammed into it from behind leaving both passengers trapped inside the vehicle as the SUV exploded into flames. Fortunately for both passengers, the EPPD and the Eagle Pass Fire Department were soon on the scene to rescue both men, however, Salas Jr. sustained extensive trauma to the chest, face and head and was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital where he is in critical condition. Neither of the two men sustained burns, according to the report, even though the vehicle was burning when emergency crews arrived on the scene. In a related incident, three young women were arrested at the scene as the 20 year-old driver of a 2010 Dodge Avenger disobeyed police orders to stop and she ran over the fire department's hoses as she drove through the area. They were detained and face additional charges of being under the influence of alcohol.
