The two players admitted that an assistant coach (who has been suspended pending the results of the investigation) had told them to carry out the act that has been seen by over 10 million people on YouTube and is on the conscious of the entire country. Both athletes said they were remorseful of what transpired on the field that night, however they both confirmed reports of the referee's comments directed at both Afro-American and Mexican-American players. Rojas said he couldn't explain why he targeted Watts, only saying he was following instructions. Moreno said that at the last moment he realized the gravity of what he was about to do and softened his blow on Watts. The honor student from Jay High School added that he has been stereotyped as a 'thug' but urges, "That's not who I am. I'm most concerned with my academics. Underneath the helmet and the pads, I'm really a great kid." The two appeared with their attorney who was asked what would be the appropriate punishment for these students to which he replied he feels they have been put through enough after being suspended for a week from school, are now in a Discipline Alternative Education Program and have been taken off the team, however it is still undetermined if the Marble Falls Police Department will file assault charges on the two. The UIL's final decision on the matter will be handed down on September 23rd.
