In reference to the 2015-2016 $17.8 million budget, Maverick County Judge David Saucedo said they are working to reduce the tax rate which now stands at approximately a .05 increase, however, with the assistance that has been provided by the $500,000.00 commitment from the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority, he is hoping to go down to as much as .04.
No significant changes have been made to the department budgets themselves with the exception of increases in the allocations for the 4-H Club in the office of Maverick County Extension Agent Oscar Galindo, as well as in the office of Justice of the Peace of Precinct 3-B Jennie Smith who was requesting more hours for her secretary.
Another bright spot according to the judge was the finding of funds in terms of insurance savings by the auditor's office. Commissioners will receive $60,000.00 more per commissioner this year, but consent to contribute $10,000.00 apiece for the purchase of heavy equipment (front-end loaders, back hoes and moto graters in particular) brought their respective budgets back down to $190,000.00 per precinct for projects, improvements and maintenance of streets and services in their areas.
