DEL RIO, Texas –

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Uvalde Station pulled two people out of a burning vehicle following a recent rollover accident.

“I commend the agents for their quick response and actions,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch. “That they were able to assist and get them the medical treatment they required which is a testament to the agents’ training and dedication.”

At approximately 7 a.m. on Aug. 29, the Uvalde Border Patrol checkpoint was notified by a traveling motorist of a rollover accident west of the checkpoint. Two agents immediately responded to the scene and observed a passenger van on its side with flames coming from the bottom of the vehicle.  Agents quickly began to spray the vehicle with their fire extinguisher and observed two occupants in the front seats. Agents entered the van through the rear doors and made their way to the front seat area, and rescued the trapped passengers. A doctor from Val Verde Regional Medical Center was driving by and was able to assist the agents in stabilizing the victims, until the Uvalde EMS and Uvalde Fire Department arrived. Both passengers were airlifted to San Antonio for further medical care.
