When the late Bob Brown opened his first dealership in 1966, both his community and ours were fledgling yet thriving communities with an eagle eye into the future.

That distant past met the future on Wednesday as Brown Chevrolet added another magnificent, technologically advanced and comfortable dealership to its franchise as they officially opened their doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its newest location, 3860 US Hwy 57 at the new and improved entrance to our fair city.

They did so in historic fashion as the Brown sales team kicked off the opening of the facility with a record 66 sales, setting the bar high for themselves as the dealership moves forward.

"His son Robert, now CEO of Brown Auto Group, started at age 10 working for his dad because he wanted to do what his dad did," said gracious emcee Claudia Wright, "He sold his first car at 15 and became a GM dealer at age 25 with the purchase of their second store (in Del Rio) in 1981.  In 2004, they came to eagle Pass with the purchase of Wickstrom Chevrolet store #6.  The Brown Group now owns eight stores with 17 franchises located franchises located in Devine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Laredo.  Brown Chevrolet will celebrate 50 years in South Texas in February 2016."

we're just looking to do better each and every month."

Their friendly staff was on hand Wednesday morning to welcome all those who came out to celebrate the event including the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, Kendall Scott of the KTTT, USBP representatives, Mayor Ramsey English-Cantú, Sheriff Tom Schmerber, Commissioner Roberto Ruiz, EPISD Board Member Ignacio Saucedo, EPWWS Manager Jorge Barrera, EPHA Executive Director Mary Velasquez, Mike Garcia, Rodolfo Barrera, Andres Beattie, Martha Garcia, Larry Martin and Roberto Mireles among others were on hand to witness the ribbon-cutting.

"It's been great.  We've been here in Eagle Pass for eleven years, we've been working out of a very small building.  Our employees have put in the time and effort and they deserved a nicer facility and I was able to give it to them and we're really, really proud of this facility," stated CEO Robert Brown at the event held Tuesday afternoon for employees and local dignitaries, "It's a lot bigger, it has a bigger service department, they've only been here a month and they already set a sales record."

When asked of the latest innovations coming in terms of the new Chevy Cruize and Malibu, Mr. Brown had the following to say, "We also have the new Camaro coming out.  GM is on a roll right now, the trucks are doing great of course we have Buick and GMC here which gives the customer a variety of choices."

Innovations that include safer chassis for drivers and passengers as well as 4G technology in both these vehicles, "They're starting to make this stuff standard equipment which were optional or weren't even available on the older models.  When they put it on all the cars it cuts costs and makes them more affordable to the customer."

General Manager Mario Cruz also weighed in on the significance of this event, "This project is three years in the making.  We are very appreciative of Mr. Brown entrusting us with this dealership.  The first month we had a record month, we're just looking to do better each and every month."
