"As an advocate for full
participation of the electorate, I am very pleased with the Court's decision," Rep. Nevárez said of the ruling. "This is a substantial victory for all Texas voters, but there is more left to be done. Tremendous amounts of political capital, money, and state resources are being spent on unconstitutional measures. Now is the time for the Attorney General to tend to home fires."
During the 84th Legislative Session, Representative Nevárez filed three bills proposing additional
acceptable forms of voter ID in order to ease the burden placed on Texas voters by the discriminatory Voter ID law. HB 534 aimed to
include a photo identification card issued by an agency of the federal government or Texas, HB 535 aimed to include a photo
identification card issued by a federally recognized Native American tribe and HB 536 aimed to allow persons over the age of 65 to vote with an expired ID.
