The meeting of the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority was held on Thursday where the Board of Directors went over all the items on this agenda with a fine-toothed comb as they efficiently plowed through items dealing with several pertinent items dealing with their assistance to the County of Maverick such as the $50,000.00 transfer of funds for the subsequent clean-up of thousands if not millions of unwanted used tires adjacent to the Caballo Dorado Rodeo Arena as well as the $261,796.24 which is a portion of the debt service for either Cell #1 that is at full capacity or the recently opened Cell #2.

Another item of interest to the future leaders of Maverick County (who may as of yet be unborn) was the discussion of closure/post-closure costs which will be due in approximately 65 years.  With respect to this, the board took a proactive role in requesting that the MCSWA look into ways to address these costs now, in order to pay an amount reflecting numbers from 2015 as opposed to what the economy will look like in the year 2080. Landfill Manager Mike Castillo and his Financial Assistant Maria Sarmiento efficiently laid out their monthly reports for the months of May and June which show a positive difference in revenues to expenditures by close to $200,000.00. "The landfill never spends more than we generate," stated Castillo. The very impressive board of Bennie Rodriguez, Roberto Mireles, Rolando Jasso, Enrique Montalvo and newly appointed member Esteban Vicente said they would look into the request. The board will meet again on Wednesday, August 12th at 5:00 PM to begin work on their Budget for 2015-2016.
