The two presenters basically identified for the almost twenty parents and educators who were on hand all day at the Holiday Inn Express, the definition of autism, diagnoses, its prevalence, treatment programs and regimens and to most importantly answer the questions all parents have about doing the most important thing they will do in their entire lives, raise their children.
"We are starting out with the basic concept of autism and what it is," said De La Cruz, "I think there are a lot of misconceptions, there's so munch information out there, sometimes incorrect information so what we're here to do today is to inform our parents here today about what autism is and to empower them."
Dr. De La Cruz and her colleague went over the latest evaluation techniques and the tests most commonly used to support a diagnosis of autism along with the latest in treatment methods and types of therapy such as Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and even Floortime a play-based technique.
