Sheriff’s Deputies involved in Motor Vehicle Accident

Four reserve deputies of the Maverick County Sheriff's Department were airlifted to San Antonio hospitals after suffering a serious motor vehicle accident on Old Mines Road on Tuesday at approximately 5:00 AM.

Old Mines Road of course is the dirt road which takes you into Webb County and is utilized by the many employees of the Eagle Ford Shale Project.

The report says that on wednesday morning a 2014 Ford pickup with four individuals, all from Eagle Pass, Leroy Rosales, Guillermo Torres and Omar Salazar who were all traveling in this vehicle along with an as of yet unidentified passenger.

Another individual by the name of Andy Ruiz was traveling west on Old Mines Road in a 2008 GMC.

According to Sheriff Tom Schmerber, the caliche road may have been the cause of the accident as the vehicles may have been trying to avoid the many potholes in the road when the accident occurred.

One of the victims was flown by helicopter to Laredo and the others were flown to San Antonio apparently with no life-threatening injuries.
