The annual 4th of July Parade was held this past weekend as several participants including the Eagle Pass Fire Department, city council members, Mayor Cantú, participants of the Boys and Girls Club summer program, and the winners of our 4th of July Pageant among others were present to showcase their patriotism in front of a large crowd of local residents.

Ruben Salazar, proud resident of Eagle Pass and a veteran of foreign wars, informed The News Gram of the significance of the 4th of July holiday and the sacrifices that our fighting forces have made for our country.

“As combat veterans, we see this as a great celebration of our independence.  The first military unit composed of veterans that fought  for the independence of this country was over 230 years ago when the Army was born in this country and they are the ones who gained our independence from Great Britain,” said Salazar who brought to mind the struggle our forefathers endured at the beginning of our great nation.

“We keep on trying to maintain our liberties and our democracy and our independence.  We must continue doing everything that needs to be done to maintain it.”
