Press Release

-Michelle Lee, FBI

Today the FBI is kicking off a nationwide publicity campaign to discuss a serious crime problem referred to as “Sextortion” (described further at the end of this email).

Criminals who engage in sextortion victimize children throughout the United States and around the world.  While we cannot quantify the numbers precisely, in the San Antonio FBI area of responsibility, we have witnessed a sharp increase in this heinous crime.

The first objective of the campaign is to help Jacksonville FBI identify at least 244 remaining victims in the investigation of Lucas Chansler. Chansler was sentenced to 105 years in federal prison for engaging in an extortion scheme to produce child pornography.  Of the 350 victims Chansler targeted, only 106 have been identified.

The second objective of the campaign is to locate other victims and other predators.  Two of Chansler’s victims have already been located in the San Antonio area.  It is possible that Chansler targeted other children in our territory, and even more likely that there are children who have been victimized by other predators, which we hope to investigate and bring to justice.

Through this campaign, we also hope to raise public awareness about this growing crime problem to help parents and children protect themselves and avoid becoming victims.
