City Council Authorizes City Manager to do Traffic Study

City Council has authorized City Manager Gloria Barrientos to conduct a traffic study of the downtown area adjacent to a property which may or may not be donated to the city by Union Pacific Railroad.

According to the City Secretary's office, Mrs. Barrientos will study the traffic in all intersections in and around the proposed site of a future park/amphitheater and play area there.  Another possibility could be that the area be put to use as a possible location for a multi-purpose center.

In reference to the delinquent balance from Maverick County, it was decided in executive session to have a formal meeting between city administration and county officials in order to further discuss this issue which stems from the use of the Eagle Pass Fire Department.

Another item on the agenda was the proposed opening of Kilowatt Drive and the plat of Eagle Pass Junior High School by the EPISD.  Council authorized the city manager to reimburse 50% of the engineering costs required by the EPISD.  When the engineer culminates this study, it is to be brought back to council after getting the final specifications to determine the city's participation in this project.

Speaking of the EPISD, a request submitted buy the school district asking for assistance in the construction of walking trails at Cerna, San Luis and Ray H. Darr Elementaries.
