The Director of The Eagle Pass Water Works Systems, Jorge Barrera, informed The News Gram that they are busy working on finding clients to purchase potable water from EPWW in order to increase finances to the department. He also commented that at the moment there are petroleum companies who may be interested in purchasing this type of water. At the moment this type of water is returned to the Rio Grande, but the possibility of selling it to said companies would definitely be an option for the EPWW System.

In the entire area of Dimmit County as well as other surrounding counties, companies of the Eagle Ford Shale Project require water to complete their jobs and it is vital for the completion of these jobs. The water in these areas is scarce and very valuable. The water treatment facility is on the south side, the water is treated according to state specifications before being released back into the river. Some of this water is used to water the golf course and for other city uses, but most is placed back into the river. Barrera stated that within the coming days, negotiations should be complete. The companies who agree to do so will determine the best way they can transport the water for their usage.
