According to Humberto O. Garza, Public Information Officer for the Eagle Pass Police Department, an officer responded to the JC Penney Department Store in reference to a theft.
The investigating officer spoke with loss prevention personnel who informed of an adult female who had been detained after she was witnessed repeatedly taking jewelry items into the restroom, removing the items from their packages and concealing the items in her purse.
The female also did the same with numerous bottles of perfume from another department and was detained by loss prevention personnel after she exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the $3,192.45 worth of merchandise concealed in her purse.
24 year-old Crystal Rangel was arrested and charged with theft over $1,00.00 but less than $20,000.00.
Rangel was presented before a magistrate and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond.
